TSC’s Ambitious Dec. 2023 Promotion and Payrise Plan.

TSC’s Ambitious Dec. 2023 Promotion and Payrise Plan.

In December 2023, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) intends to enact a significant wave of teacher compensation hikes and promotions across the country. This program is a crucial aspect of the collective bargaining agreement’s final wage rise for 2017–2021, especially for educators who have committed to their respective work groups for a minimum of three years.

Elevating teachers from C1 to C2, C2 to C3, and C3 to C4 job groups is part of the promotion strategy. Approximately 600 million shillings will be needed for this endeavor in order to promote 4,595 primary school teachers from job category C1 to C2. Additionally, 2,637 university lecturers will be able to go from group C3 to C4 with the help of 400 million shillings.

One significant development is the promotion of 652 university instructors from grade D3 to grade D4, which was made possible by funding reaching 175 million shillings. Above and beyond this, 13,713 educational leaders—principals, deputy principals, senior masters, secondary teachers, and assistant principals—are targeted for future promotions.

In a statement, Nancy Macharia, the Director General of the Teacher Services Commission, stressed that the promotion’s goal is to improve teachers’ total benefits, not merely to alter their job title or group. It is anticipated that the Treasury will spend more than 2.2 billion shillings on these initiatives in total.

The TSC is actively addressing a serious teacher shortage across the country, thus this program comes at a critical time. To ensure ongoing instruction, more than 30,000 teachers have been hired and assigned to public schools in recent months.

Transparency in the process is demonstrated by the release of the entire list of teachers who would benefit from these promotions on the TSC portal. This ambitious initiative aims to attract and retain qualified individuals in the education industry while also recognizing and rewarding the devotion of educators.

This move is a major step in strengthening Kenya’s education system, as the country excitedly awaits the December interviews.
