UDA Politicians are now in charge of the teacher recruitment process, Kaluma

In our nation, hiring new teachers is the sole responsibility of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Politicians have started handing out TSC employment letters at public gatherings like funerals in recent months, which is a worrying trend. Notably, a competent teacher received a TSC employment letter from the Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, a month ago at the Getaari Secondary School memorial service for Nyamaiya Ward MCA. Unfortunately, other places have reported experiencing similar events.

The Honorable Peter Kaluma, a member of parliament for Homa Bay town, expressed his displeasure with this circumstance today. He has demanded a TSC hiring procedure that is just and transparent and accurately reflects the variety of the Kenyan populace.

He expressed the legitimate worry that politicians appeared to have stepped into the TSC’s tasks, thus marginalizing this independent body.

“The teacher recruitment process has been co-opted by politicians from the United Democratic Alliance,” he claimed, “leaving the TSC on the sidelines when it should be the agency that is primarily responsible for this task.” His wailing is justified.

I completely concur with the Honorable Peter Kaluma’s position on this issue. The TSC is intended to operate independently, hence it should be allowed the autonomy to carry out its essential responsibility of teacher recruitment free from outside intervention.

It’s crucial to keep in mind that politicians’ decisions in this matter have broad ramifications, particularly for teachers who have been without a job for some time. Many qualified instructors, including those who graduated some time ago, could be harmed by this intervention.

Given these facts, it is crucial to uphold the integrity of the TSC’s hiring procedure in order to provide justice and equal chances for all prospective teachers in Kenya.
