Unexpectedly, school principals apply for JSS deployment

According to sources, when the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recently posted openings in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), some headteachers submitted applications.

TSC announced the availability of 10,833 requests for the deployment of certified primary school teachers to junior secondary schools in a circular dated February 17, 2023.

The procedure is scheduled to start this coming week in a number of sub-counties around the nation, and TSC Sub-County Directors have already invited P1 instructors who made the short list for document verification.

Several primary school administrators, though, intend to transfer to junior high schools.

Deployed instructors will begin at job grade C2 and automatically move up to job grade C3 after three years, as per the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) for Teachers.

Some school administrators may be transferred, but their compensation won’t be affected, and they won’t be in charge of the new schools, according to reports.

The verification process is still being completed in a number of subcounties.

The teachers’ employer claims that they will be stationed close to where they are now.

According to TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, instructors should, whenever possible, be allocated to their current stations or those that are close by.

Macharia further suggested that Sub-County Directors avoid hiring teachers with similar subject combinations to those who are already posted to the JSS in the event that a school needs more than one teacher with the same combination of subjects.

The TSC CEO recommended assigning SNE-qualified teachers to unique JSSs.

Two letters of deployment from the Sub-County Director must be obtained by each instructor.

The teacher will get one of the letters, and the second original letter, along with other deployment papers, will be delivered to the headquarters.
