TSC advises Teachers to Get Ready for More Deductions Next Month
TSC responds to pay freezes. Kenya’s Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is an organization with the legal responsibility to monitor teachers’ advancement while employed in Kenyan educational institutions.
Additionally, the commission has the power to employ, promote, and in some cases even fire instructors.
Kenyans are aware of the amount deducted from teachers’ salaries. On Thursday, July 27, several teachers received their paychecks for the month of July, but several of them complained about the deductions that had been made from their income.
According to TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, despite teachers receiving lesser pay, the anticipated 1.5% housing charge deductions were not put into place. This is because the legal dispute over the planned finance measure was still pending.

Macharia added that in February of this year, a law was introduced raising NSSF from Sh100 to Sh1000. The NHIF contribution rate was also increased to 2.75 percent of base pay. Educators have been forewarned to expect more deductions by Macharia.
The local media allegedly spread a claim that the National Security Fund (NSSF) had stolen money from teachers. Additionally, it is clear that professors have never contributed in the past.
In accordance with the work groups they are engaged in, the study states that teachers receive their pensions from provident funds. Sadly, both funds had withdrawals for this month’s salaries.
Next month, expect more deductions, the TSC warns teachers.
