Pre-increment salary for teachers in job groups B5 and D5
In the foreseeable future, salaries for teachers who are employed by the Teachers Service Commission, which has a constitutional duty to register teachers, hire teachers, promote teachers, and exercise disciplinary supervision, are expected to rise dramatically.
This is due to the salaries and pay commission’s decision to set the salary increase for public employees at between 7 and 10 percent.
The decision was made at a time when educators are finding it difficult to manage new government deductions like the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Housing Levy.
A primary teacher in job group B5 currently has a base salary of KSH 21,7561 per month. A Chief Principal of a National School makes a base salary of KSH 15,7068 per month, which is at the other end of the pay spectrum. These two wages are based on the current cost of living in the nation.

The lowest paid teacher will receive a basic income of KSH 23,921 at the end of the month, while the highest paid teacher would receive KSH 172,774 if the new compensation plan is fully implemented.
Teachers will nevertheless need to pay close to 360 Kenyan Shillings in order to contribute to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), which was set up at the start of the current fiscal year.
The financial act’s effective date will be retroactively moved to July 1 as a result of the court of appeals’ ruling, which overturned a court order that had frozen it. The housing levy of 1.5 percent will go into force on July 1.
It is now necessary to determine whether or not the wage adjustments would significantly impact the instructors’ sense of wellbeing.

Please be aware that the TSC has not yet created a new basic wage schedule that incorporates the SRC’s further requested adjustments. All teachers in all Cadres must adhere to this schedule.
