Why TSC Got the Biggest Share of the 2023/2024 Budget

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been given a staggering Ksh.21.7 billion, or the lion’s share of the salary budget for the incoming fiscal year of 2023/2024. This puts the TSC in a position to fulfill its crucial responsibility of assisting and empowering our community’s highly regarded teachers.

Lyn Mengich has put forth a comprehensive plan to significantly raise teacher pay in her capacity as the head of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). This choice was made with the goal of bringing teachers’ pay into line with that of other public sector employees and state employees.

Teachers in Kenya are the lowest paid government workers in the nation with salaries that are in the 36th percentile of the gross market. Mengich, on the other hand, believes that this percentage will increase to the fairer 50th percentile, where innovation and tradition can coexist peacefully.

To ensure that everyone is paid fairly, the goal is to bring everyone to a point of compromise in the middle. This wage review’s main goal is to align salaries with the market’s fast changing conditions and the current state of the national economy.

Mengich acknowledges the urgent necessity to address the problem of securing a reasonable minimum wage for all public employees. It is a crucial part of the complex dance that is the salary adjustment process.

To ensure a seamless transition for users, the revolutionary payment system will be unveiled to consumers in two exciting phases over the course of two years.

The most recent pay review was a pleasant surprise, raising salaries for state and federal employees by 7 to 10%. The positive effects of this update are predicted to start showing up right away on July 1, 2023, and to last until July 1, 2024.

The SRC, under the direction of Lyn Mengich, has been carefully evaluating how to fairly reward our hardworking teachers. In order to hire and retain the brightest and most talented individuals available to serve the public, the government must become an employer of choice.

Financial assistance is being given to the organization as part of the Teaching Service’s long-term plan to raise their profile and gain a more equal share of the market. This effort seeks to provide our teachers with the degree of deference and recompense they are due.
