Despite the extension of the deadline, students reject student loans.
Following the expansion of the application time under the new university finance model, applications for government loans and scholarships have slowed. According to the University Funding Board, just 23,113 students have applied since the extension on September 6, a considerable decrease from the prior rate of 8,000 applications per day. It follows that there are now only an average of 1,500 applications per day.
According to information from the Board, 73,322 technical college students and 176,745 university students have submitted financial applications. In contrast, 153,632 applications were submitted by September 5, which was just two days before the first deadline for grant applications.
To give individuals who hadn’t yet applied additional time, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu extended the application deadline by one month, to October 7.
Message from Belio Kipsang to All School Administrators Is Terrifying
Following is a breakdown of the applications: There are still about 36,684 university students who have not applied for government support out of the 103,423 applicants who identify as students. In the meantime, 73,322 candidates are technical college students.
Questions have been raised about the slow adoption during the extended period. According to Geoffrey Monari, Chief Executive of the Universities Fund, not all admitted students may be interested in receiving financial aid from the government because some talented students may opt to cover their tuition costs on their own.
The Higher Education Loans Board determines a student’s financial need under the new funding arrangement, which was unveiled in May by President William Ruto. In contrast to the prior model, which automatically supported students who met specific requirements, this model necessitates that students enrolling in public colleges apply for government scholarships or loans in order to help defray the cost of their tuition.
