- Kenyan secondary school finalists who sat the 2024 national examination will know their results in January next year
- Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the examiners had made progress in marking and were finalising the process before the grading phase
- Over 960,000 candidates in 10,755 centres countrywide registered for this year’s theory and practical tests
More than 960,000 applicants who took the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam would receive their results in January 2025, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba.
However, the CS declined to provide the precise day on which the results will be made public.
Ogamba stated that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) examiners were completing the marking while speaking on the sidelines of Kabete National Polytechnic’s fifth graduation ceremony on Wednesday, December 11.
“The results ought to be available in January. We are currently working on the marking; it is currently underway. We will release them when they are prepared. Due to the continuing marking process, I am unable to provide a specific date,” Ogamba stated.
What percentage of 2024 KCSE applicants engaged in exam cheating?
10,755 centers participated in this year’s theory and practical exams for the four-year secondary education program in Kenya.
Only a few instances of exam misconduct were reported during the month-long exam, which took place between October 22 and November 22.
Just 621 candidates were linked to violations, according to the Ministry of Education.
In order to cheat on the test, the offenders were discovered to have unapproved written materials, cell phones, and to have collided with other applicants.
Some instances are still being looked into by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
A man suspected of being behind a Telegram group that circulated the papers was apprehended by the cops on November 5.
Why the Nyamira man was taken into the custody of the DCI
Nyamira County native Stephen Nyang’au Mbeche was charged with starting the “KCSE 2024 Leakage Group,” where he disseminated exam papers and took advantage of parents and applicants.
Mbeche’s Telegram group had 802 members, according to photos the DCI supplied, and the suspect requested upfront money from them in order to spread the documents.
Following a thorough search of his property, a laptop and a cell phone—the alleged instruments of trade he employed in his illicit business—were seized.
In several regions, educators were found to have assisted in the publications’ dissemination.
In other places, the exam season was tainted by a mix of joy and sadness.
Candidates in some centers gave birth prior to taking the examinations, while in others, they passed away from disease and other causes.
