Government updates the 2023 school calendar
New school calendar dates for 2023 have been released by the ministry of education.
Term I 2023
In a notice published by Belio Kipsang on January 10, the commencement dates for the 2023 first term were left unmodified. The first term officially started on January 23.
However, the Ministry altered the initially planned midterm break dates from March 23 to March 16. The break will last three days, with students returning to class on March 19.
On April 21, 2023, all primary and secondary schools in the nation will break for the first time following the conclusion of the first term.
2023: Term II
The beginning and midterm dates for the second term remained May 8 and June 29, respectively. However, as initially stated, the term’s conclusion dates were changed from August 8 to August 11. The school will take a two-week break before returning on August 28.
Third Term 2023
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment examinations will now commence on October 30, as opposed to the previously stated date of November 6, according to a new calendar released by the Ministry.
The two tests will be given side-by-side for four days, ending on November 2.
Term three will start on August 28 and last for nine weeks without a midterm break, according to the Ministry.
This differs from the calendar that was previously communicated, which specified that the term would last 10 weeks.
Additionally, instead of the previously planned date of November 10, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams will start on November 3.
Up until November 24th, 2023 class candidates can take their tests.
Eventually, this will ready the area for marking, which is anticipated to start on November 27 and go through December 15.
Following the one that was announced on January 6, this is the second adjustment to the academic calendar for 2023.
The government said in 2022 that after a three-year pause brought on by COVID-19, operations in the educational sector will restart normally.
