MACHOGU WARNS TEACHERS WHO ARE CHARGING FOR LUNCH DURING EXAMS

Ruiru, Kiambu County teachers have been advised not to ask candidates for payment for lunch during the national examinations. The three exam days’ lunch expenses have already been paid for by a feeding program supported by the Ng’ang’a King’ara Foundation, according to the area’s member of parliament, Simon King’ara.

In order to support 8,154 candidates in the constituency’s 19 public elementary schools, Mr. King’ara gave a check for Sh2.5 million. He disclosed that there had been tidings of certain educators pressuring parents to foot the bill for the meals—a practice that runs counter to the sponsored feeding initiative.

Additionally, the lawmaker guaranteed that steps had been taken to guarantee that exam papers would be delivered to all locations without incident, especially in sections of the district that are vulnerable to flooding.

Prior to the MP’s intervention, several parents said that they had to pay Sh350 for each student for the three exam days. However, they were relieved.

Ruiru Primary School’s headteacher, Stephen Saruni, thanked the feeding initiative, saying it had motivated a lot of pupils who might not have gone to class otherwise. He valued Mr. King’ara’s initiative as well.

167 of the 207 KCPE candidates at Ruiru Primary School are also appearing for the KPSEA. He also indicated that there is now no restriction on the return of the five applicants who paid for the examinations but who had vanished at the beginning of the year to retake them.

Githurai sub-county’s Mwiki Primary School had the most candidates, with a total of 1,593 kids taking the KCPE (854 candidates) and KPSEA (739 candidates).
