MORE TEACHERS APPLY FOR THE TWO-WEEK KCPE 2023 INSHA AND COMPOSITION MARKING PROGRAM
KNEC portal 2023(examiners) . A growing number of teachers are responding to the call by the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) to participate in the marking of this year’s national exams.
Many educators are actively engaging in the marking exercise, having accessed and printed their invitation letters after Knec’s circular in October.
Primary and secondary school teachers trained as examiners for the KCPE and KCSE exams were invited to apply online.
The application process for KCPE examiners began on October 16, 2023, followed by KCSE examiners on November 1, 2023, using the designated portal link provided by Knec.

To access the application portal, teachers were required to log in using their credentials.
Instructions were given to those who forgot their passwords to reset them by submitting their mobile numbers in a specified format for a new password.
Knec emphasized the completion of personal information upon successful login,
alongside downloading, printing, and reading the invitation letters and marking instructions from the provided dashboard.
The Council plans to provide further information on the logistics of examiner travel to various marking centers in Nairobi.
Notably, 1,415,315 candidates sat for the KCPE exams, while 1,282,574 candidates took their KPSEA assessments.
These examinations commenced on October 30, 2023, and concluded on November 1, 2023, covering subjects like
- Mathematics,
- English,

Manual marking by examiners is specified for Insha and Composition papers,
while modern Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology is employed for multiple-choice questions.
The OMR operates by electronically scoring papers, capturing data from candidates’ answer sheets through specialized scanning.
This technology enables batch marking of scripts in quantities of 100 or 200 sheets, markedly improving efficiency compared to older methods.
The Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Belio Kipsang, confirmed the imminent commencement of the marking process.
He projected the release of KCPE results before Christmas and assured that Grade 6 learners’ KPSEA results would be available concurrently.
Emphasizing the prioritization of KCPE candidates‘ results for timely preparation ahead of transitioning to Form 1,
Kipsang assured that parents would be informed about their children’s school placements before the Christmas holidays.

With fewer secondary schools compared to primary institutions, Kipsang expressed optimism in the deployment process.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to meet the set timeframe for marking and releasing exam results.
To ensure a smooth and efficient process, Kipsang mentioned the implementation of two shifts during the marking period.
