NEW JSS RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR 2023-2024 RELEASED BY TSC

NEW JSS RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR 2023-2024 RELEASED BY TSC

As a result of the competency-based curriculum’s deployment, P1 teachers’ requirements to teach junior secondary schools (JSS) in Kenya have recently changed. Primary schools now have less work to do because of this change in the educational system, which has shifted a large amount of the academic emphasis to secondary schools.

Students in the 8-4-4 system who are presently in the sixth form will go to Form 1 in 2023 after passing the Kenya Certificate of Basic Education (KCPE) exam. After the sixth-grade national exam, junior high schools will be essential to the education of pupils in grades 7, 8, and 9, helping them become ready for the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) 2-6-3-3-3 system.

The Ministry of Education and Culture has chosen a few elementary schools to become junior secondary schools (JSS) in order to adjust to these changes, and has made efforts to improve the JSS’s infrastructure.

New JSS Hiring Guidelines for 2023–2024

The Ministry of Education and the Department of instructors have decided to assign primary instructors to oversee high school pupils in secondary schools due to the shortage of teachers in both primary and secondary education.

The following requirements must be met in order for an elementary teacher to be eligible: they must be qualified in special education, early childhood development education, have a certificate or degree with an optional secondary school component, or have relevant subject experience even if they did not receive a C+ on their KCSE.

Additionally, P1 instructors having these credentials are to be assigned to secondary schools by the instructors Service Commission (TSC). For teaching in secondary schools (JSS), these credentials include diplomas, advanced degrees, graduate degrees, and even master’s and doctoral degrees.

In conclusion, the necessity to conform with a competency-based curriculum and Kenya’s evolving educational landscape are reflected in these new TSC credentials for P1 teachers assigned to teach JSS. The purpose of these modifications is to raise the standard of primary and secondary education.
