Teachers Awaiting Compensation for Payment Delay: KNEC Exams in 2022

There will be a delay in the payment of teachers who delivered Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) exams in 2022.

Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, had earlier stated that the payment of the KNEC examiners’ dues would begin this week. The payment will now be sent towards the end of the month due to unanticipated events, nevertheless.

A total of 28,408 instructors worked as center managers, 28,727 as supervisors, 74,990 as invigilators, and 5,647 as examiners during the 2022 examinations and assessments. Teachers were eagerly awaiting their remuneration with great anticipation, but the delay has raised some questions.

On July 15, during the first-ever Education Day hosted by MP Gitonga Mukunji, CS Machogu addressed the issue at Kangaru School in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County.

He assured the teachers that Ksh. 2 billion had been set aside to pay off the debts owed to KNEC examiners, contracted officials, and suppliers.
He apologized for the inconvenience the delay had created and promised that in the future, fast payment to examiners would be given priority.

CS Machogu also stated that the government had begun paying the Ksh. 2.5 billion in unpaid debts to the contractors in charge of building Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) classes.

“…previous fiscal year, we were able to hire 36,000 instructors for the first time in many years. The government will hire 24,000 teachers this year alone, a level we haven’t seen in a long time, thanks to the president’s ability to understand the need of having enough teachers for good, high-quality instruction to continue, according to CS Machogu.
