Teachers Seeking Swops website launched by TSC.
For the convenience of instructors looking for county and inter-region transfers through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), a new website has been developed.

Collins Oyuu, the general secretary of Knut, highlighted the new website, where instructors can log in and announce a transfer need and search for prospective exchange partners.

According to a circular dated July 24, 2023, distributed to the secretaries of the Knut branch, Oyuu, instructors can connect with their swop partners through the website www.swop.co.ke, which is administered by a private firm called Azahub Limited.

This move was brought about by the REPEAL of the delocalization policy, which had detrimental impacts on a number of teachers, their families, and education in general. You can use this platform however you see fit, claims Oyuu.

To address the issue of teachers missing transfers because a replacement is not available, the most recent remedy was used.

The National Assembly Education Committee recently questioned TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia about the mobility of delocalized professors.

By the end of June, 46,962 delocalized teachers, according to Dr. Macharia, had submitted transfer requests, and the commission had successfully relocated 20,055 teachers to their appropriate counties.

17,942 primary school teachers relocated after applying, compared to 10,967 post-primary teachers, of whom only 2,113 were impacted.

The TSC boss claimed that this was caused by a lack of suitable substitutes.

The commission also disclaimed responsibility for relocating tutors around the nation, claiming that it was able to do so since many of the counties lacked possibilities for employment, particularly for school heads, and there were few competent replacements.

Dr. Macharia claims to take into account a number of factors when deciding whether to transfer a teacher, including the need for equitable distribution and the best use of the teacher’s resources, the presence of a vacancy at the proposed station, the need for a replacement, the staffing standards in effect at the time, and medical justifications.

According to Eve Obara, a Kabondo Kaspul MP, equitable allocation and effective teacher utilization are in danger, and non-local heads of schools have experienced conflict that led to their transfers.

When instructors object to being delocalized, some are forced to leave the classroom. For those who cannot accept delocalization, we must ensure the safety of the instructors, according to Obara.

Due to a shortage of local instructors in arid and semi-arid (Asal) and difficult-to-staff locales, teachers from other regions had to be recruited, which frequently led to demands for transfers back to their home counties.

Julius Melly, the chairman of the committee, asserts that despite their repeated pleas, the corporation does not allow instructors to apply for the posts.

Some teachers who visited your website to request a transfer left without returning. While some students refuse to return, others are being forced out of their schools by the neighbourhood. What steps are you taking to address these issues? said Melly.

The Knut secretary general forwarded the message to the 210 executive secretaries of Knut branches.

To: EVERY Executive Secretary:

Dear Coworkers,

IN REGARD TO SWOP SERVICES FOR OUR TEACHERS,

This is to let all of our teachers know that there is a website called www.swop.co.ke, which is run by a business named Azahub Limited and allows instructors to communicate with their swop partners. Following the REPEAL of the delocalization policy, which had detrimental consequences on numerous teachers, their families, and education in general, this was carried out. You can use this platform as you need it.

The website is simple to use and can provide individuals in need with prompt assistance. Please assist the team that will be visiting your schools, which will be led by Peter Rotich of ICT KNUT. Please let the teachers in your specific branches know about this information.

We anticipate your unwavering support.

in service to you,
