Teachers will gain from TSC’s July Salary Increment Boost. The most recent decision of the High Court would result in an increase in perk for teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in their July salary.

Starting in July, more than 350,000 PNP employees who serve as teachers and administrative staff will have their salaries increased thanks to money that the National Treasury has already given to TSC in the amount of sh. 9.1 billion.

President William Ruto claims that the 7% to 10% pay increase for teachers and other public employees is intended to protect them from the difficult economic environment.

“I am aware that the SRC has advocated raising the pay for several groups of public employees, including officials. At the KICC introduction of the new e-citizen platform, Ruto made this announcement. The wages of our teachers, police officers, soldiers, and other government officials will therefore increase by 7 to 10% as of tomorrow.

Teachers will be interested in the High Court’s most recent decision about Finance Bill 2023 regarding the wage increase in July.

Judge Mugure Thande of the High Court declined on Wednesday to overturn the decisions suspending the Finance Act 2023.

The court determined that the applicants, which included Senator Okiya Omtatah of Busia, had proven their case and issued a stern warning in the event that the injunction was lifted.

The judge further ordered that the file be sent to Chief Justice Martha Koome, who would name a three-judge bench to hear the case and render a decision.

Therefore, instead of the 1.5% housing fund reduction that was slated to begin on July 1st, 2023 under the Finance Act 2023, teachers would receive a 7% salary boost in July.

According to the most recent court decision, TSC is not allowed to withhold 1.5% from teachers’ paychecks to pay for the Housing Fund.

Following new TSC orders, teachers’ salaries will increase in July.

There will be an increase in the amount that can be borrowed while taking out check off loans, which will help teachers’ net salaries.

Due to the president’s directive that it be calculated as of the start of the month, the wage increase will be reflected on the pay stubs for July.

The pay increases for teachers will be 7%, 8%, 9%, and 10% in the first fiscal year (2023-2024), second fiscal year (2024-2025), third fiscal year (2025-2026), and fourth fiscal year (2026-2027, respectively).

The TSC was given a 14-day deadline to hold a meeting to examine the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that was signed in 2021 after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) voiced its displeasure.

It is regrettable that the TSC’s initial request for teachers’ allowances was lowered from Sh2 billion to Sh1 billion by the National Treasury. “We still want our TSC to sit down with us and reopen the door for discussions,” declared Knut SG Collins Oyuu.

But the restriction on negotiations has been lifted, therefore we are going. The non-financial CBA we agreed to in 2021 will be reviewed once we have a meeting with the TSC, which I have requested in writing and given 14 days to arrange. We must take another seat so that we can feed the teachers while keeping in mind how dire the economic situation is in this country.

Assuming a 7% to 10% wage rise, the minimum and maximum basic salaries for teachers in job groups B5 to D5 are listed below.
