Maternity and bereavement leave
In order to improve service delivery to its employees and stakeholders, the Commission identified reforms and innovation in the provision of educational services as its strategic emphasis area in its 2019–2023 Strategy Plan.
The Commission has successfully moved services related to teacher leave applications to an online platform in this context.
The procedure for obtaining leaves of absence has gone without a hitch since the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) Leave Module for Teachers went into effect on November 1st, 2021.
When read in conjunction with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the 2015 Code of Regulation for Teachers has clear provisions for maternity, paternity, and pre-adoption leave (2021-2025). Each teacher is only allowed one leave at a time, following the aforementioned limitations.
The main purpose of this Circular is to inform you of the following modifications to the leave policy that became effective on July 1st, 2021.
Parental Leave
Teachers are not forced to forfeit their annual leave because they took maternity leave, and female employees are entitled to one hundred twenty (120) calendar days of paid leave beginning on the day of birth.
Paternity Leave
Once a year, during the spouse’s maternity leave, a male teacher will be entitled to a paternity leave of twenty-one (21) calendar days with full salary.
Pre-Adoptive Leave
A teacher is qualified for a pre-adoption leave of up to 45 calendar days, all of which are paid.
