To pursue a degree in medicine and surgery, a total of 454 students who scored an A on the KCSE exam from the previous year have been selected.

Pharmacy will admit 111 students, making it the course with the second-highest percentage of top students, according to data gathered by The Standard.

52 students will enroll in electrical and electronic engineering, 54 will enroll in civil engineering and structural engineering, and 61 students will enroll in architectural studies and architecture.

Dental surgery will admit 39 students, nursing will admit 34, clinical medicine will admit 33, and aeronautical engineering will admit 29 students to cover the top 10 courses selected by the A-graders.

21 of the top performers will be admitted to Mechanical Engineering, while 26 of the top performances will be admitted to the Bachelor of Law and Mechatronic Engineering programs.

The top students will also enroll in courses in biomedical engineering (with 4 students each), quantity survey (with 5 students), software engineering (10), nursing and public health (15), and radiography (with 13).

1,152 students achieved an A on the national Form Four exams that were administered last year.

These students would make up the first cohort of the new university financing program, which President William Ruto proposed in May and will go into effect in September.

Nearly 50 percent of students who obtained an A will be admitted to the University of Nairobi. 418 of the 1,152 pupils who scored As will be allowed to attend the school.

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) would receive the second-highest number, 264.

The A-grade students will be divided into three groups: 151 will be admitted to Kenyatta University, 71 to Moi University, and 58 to Egerton University.

Maseno University will accept 53 students, Technical University Kenya (TUK) will admit 38, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology will admit 22, and Kisii University will admit 38. At Multimedia University, 15 students will be admitted.

Six students will enroll at University of Embu, and nine will attend Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology.

Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) will enroll two of the top pupils. Meru University and Kibabii University will each accept one student from the top KCSE students.

Among the private universities, a student selected Uzima University and Mount Kenya University.

The data showed that 21 A students will enroll in private universities the following month.

Six will be admitted to Mount Kenya University and twelve to Uzima University among the pupils who obtained As. Daystar University, Kenya Methodist University, and Kenya Highlands Evangelical University all enroll three students apiece.

These students will not be eligible for government aid or scholarships because they applied for admission to private universities. They are nevertheless qualified for government financing.
