The Ministry of Education will send 1,300 trainers to Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs around the country in September after a fruitful recruiting drive.
The recruitment of instructors is complete, according to Dr. Esther Muoria, the Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department for TVET, and deployment won’t start until they receive the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) final report.
Dr. Muoria provided these details at the completion of a week-long training program for TVET principals put on by the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET) in Kisumu County, and he underlined the State Department for TVET’s commitment to sending assistant principals to TVET institutions to fill shortages.
For posts as vocational and technical trainers in 220 institutions around the nation, the PSC issued an application invitation in March 2023 to qualified holders of diplomas, higher national diplomas, and degrees.
In order to shape the institutions’ future, Dr. Muoria emphasized the significance of retraining TVET managers in financial management and governance.

In the past year, 1,896 TVET teachers and staff members were trained through a successful partnership between the Ministry of Education and KSTVET, attaining 60% of the original target population. In order to be thorough, the training addressed a wide range of roles.
Principals, assistant principals, registrars, department heads, finance officers, auditors, accountants, human resource officers, and facility managers were among the attendees.
In order to improve fairness in access to TVET and university education, Dr. Muoria endorsed the government’s new funding strategy for higher education. She promised complete support for every student under the new funding scheme.
In order for incoming freshmen to be eligible for state sponsorship, she urged principals to help them get admission for the September 2023 intake.
To welcome new trainees expected for the September intake, preparations are already under way. Dr. Muoria also gave the go-ahead to establish a help desk to aid trainees who are having trouble accessing or completing their applications for government scholarships and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
