Kenyans Pay Ksh 259K Per Hour to Attend the Naivasha Safari Rally

Safari Rally enthusiasts paid close to Ksh259,000 per hour to fly to Naivasha in an effort to avoid the typical traffic jam that creates delays on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

On Thursday, June 22, the 2023 FIA World Rally Championship got underway, with both seasoned competitors and rookies vying for the top spot.

A one-hour trip from Nairobi was priced in US dollars rather than Kenyan shillings, claims certified pilot Khalif Kairo. The majority of choppers can seat five people, not including the pilot, so parties can divide the cost.

Rally aficionados will spend about Ksh50,000 per person for a one-way trip if they decide to travel together.

“The quickest and most practical means of travel this weekend to Naivasha. The hourly charge for the complete helicopter, which can accommodate five passengers, is Ksh259,832 (USD 1,850), according to Kairo.

One rally enthusiast would be compelled to pay up to Ksh100,000 every day if the other passengers chose to beat the traffic and return home quicker.

Each person travelling to and from flights for the two days of the Naivasha rally, which is scheduled to last till Sunday, June 25, could spend Ksh200,000.

However, the majority sleep in hotels, tents, or the cars of their friends.

Kenyans expressed surprise over the exorbitant cost of chopper rides despite the short distance to be traveled after the pilot’s revelation, which was made.

According to Kairo, choppers are favoured since they save time and overcome common roadside difficulties like traffic jams.

At an average speed of 80 kilometers per hour, drivers could go from Nairobi to Naivasha in about two hours.

On the other side, those who take matatus pay a charge of between Ksh400 and Ksh500.

A Safari Rally enthusiast can also experience breathtaking views of mountains, motorways, and other scenic locations like the Rift Valley and Lake Elementaita on chopper rides.

Some people also love the thrill of adrenaline from taking dangerous routes, the exclusivity, and the desire to spend money and make memorable memories.
