The pay and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has published new pay and benefits for teachers, government workers, and other state employees.
The commission has gazetted the increased wage in order for government organizations like the TSC and the Public Service Commission (PSC) to implement the increase.
State and other public employees are now paid more, with arrears going back to July 1, 2023. The changes will appear on August pay stubs.
According to SRC Chairperson Lyn Mengich, the evaluation of compensation is intended to achieve sustainability and is applicable to both state and public employees.
Mengich asserted that the examination took into account the employees whose pay and benefits are below the market average.
Because of this, Mengich stated, “this review seeks to harmonise to the extent of affordability and physical sustainability salary structures that are below the 50th percentile in order to achieve equity and fairness through harmonisation.”

The commission gives state officers a 45th percentile rating, state businesses an 89th percentile rating, national and county civil servants a 39th percentile rating, teaching services a 36th percentile rating, public universities a 49th percentile rating, and other public officials an 84th percentile rating.
The salary increase is being taken into account, among other things, based on cost of living changes and adherence to the statutory minimum wave.
The increase is seven to ten percent on average over a two-year period, she explained, when you include the current notch increases, which averages 3% annually.
Cabinet Secretaries, for instance, will see a salary increase of almost 2%, from Sh924,000 to Sh957,000, as part of the review.
The panel chose to maintain President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagia’s salary because they are paid more than marketing standards.
Asserting that doing so may widen the wage disparity, President Ruto had promised the commission that he would put a stop to salary increases for State Department personnel.
