The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced plans to train newly hired junior secondary school teachers and confirmed that all teachers have been posted.
The Commission stated that the training of teachers would take place between January and April of this year.
TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, however, disclosed that the teachers who had already received training in junior secondary schools will aid in retooling newly hired instructors.
Between January and April, we hope to train 90,000 teachers, according to Dr. Nancy Macharia.
The TSC Director of Human Resource Management and Development, Julius Olayo, previously stated that teachers would be retrained to ensure they satisfy the requirements for carrying out their duties in an efficient manner.
Olayo stated that 60,000 secondary school teachers and 229,000 elementary school teachers, respectively, had received training on the Competency-Based Curriculum at that time (CBC).
In order to comprehend the curriculum and be able to provide instructional assistance while the curriculum is being implemented, all field officers and curriculum support officers have also received training on the CBC, according to Olayo.
For the benefit of students in Grade 7, it appears that TSC spearheaded the Kenya National Union of Teachers’ (KNUT) appeal for the Ministry of Education to speed up the process of posting Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
Since JSS started reporting to schools at the end of January, according to KNUT’s Eldoret East Branch Executive Sammy Bor, they haven’t been learning because the teachers haven’t yet been posted.
“As a union, we are troubled by the way the government is handling junior secondary schools. The KNUT boss stated, “Despite kids enrolling in junior secondary schools, there is a significant teacher shortage making it difficult for learning to begin.
For the sake of the students in Grade 7, Bor claimed that the staffing issue needed to be resolved immediately.
Several schools are quite confusing; students attend class but receive no instruction. As little is happening, the ministry should move quickly to remedy the issue.
