TSC Highlights Its Major Successes From The Past Five Years

In light of the 2019-23 Strategic Plan’s previous five years, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has offered a thorough appraisal of the Commission’s accomplishments.

TSC has focused reforms, new methods for providing instructional services, and re-engineering service delivery over the past five years.

Several approaches, including as performance contracting assessments, compliance audits, mid-term and end-term reviews, were used to monitor and evaluate its execution.

To ensure that pupils transition smoothly from primary to secondary schools, 35,000 new instructors have been hired during the last five years.

The achievement was made possible by the policy and guiding principles for teacher internships that have been established.

The committee monitored the appointment of 54,300 intern instructors and provided guidelines for internships.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia indicated that the commission hopes to hire 111,870 additional teachers with permanent and pensionable positions during the next five years.

She claimed that a rise in the general population, an increase in the number of basic education schools, and restricted finances were to blame for a significant teacher shortage.

The Commission was also in charge of creating a policy framework for standards of admission for teaching services.

According to the report, “all principals, instructors from teacher preparation programs, and deans from 60 out of 90 universities were sensitized on the legal and policy framework on teaching standards.”

The Teacher Induction, Mentorship, and Coaching (TIMEC) Policy was created by TSC to further codify the induction, mentoring, and coaching activity.

According to the Commission, regulating teachers’ behavior in the classroom has become a stronger area of expertise for 1,712 field officers, 28,741 BOMs, and 38,354 administrators.

In order to properly implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), the Commission retrained 55,125 middle and high school teachers and 229,000 instructors in primary schools.

The study claims that 82% of the total number of teachers hired by the Commission have been “retooled” for the new curriculum.

Additionally, the Commission has introduced remote learning as a cutting-edge strategy for different ways to execute curriculum and has made 163,938 instructors aware of it.
